The book club meeting isn't going so well. Nobody finished the book, nobody wants to talk about anything real, and nearly all the women are quietly in the dumps. It's the 1960s — housewives don't air their grievances, especially about their husbands, kids, or their "non-traditional" aspirations. Leave it to Charlotte to disappear into the kitchen and come back with a tray of vodka stingers she calls truth serum. Suddenly, the secrets start spilling.
Viv is pregnant with baby number seven and beside herself — she was this close to going back to work. Bitsy is being sent to a fertility specialist without her husband King, who sees no reason to be tested himself — just sayin'. And Margaret gets a phone call mid-meeting that changes everything.
We also take a field trip to a New York City magazine office and a Washington DC art gallery, and spend a lot of time thinking about what women keep to themselves — and why. We get into birth control in the 1960s and whether some things are truly better left unsaid.

It's 1963, and Margaret — the perfect housewife — has decided she wants more. Step one: start a book club. Step two: dust off her essay writing. And with the influence of her bold new friend Charlotte, the club lands on a controversial first read: The Feminine Mystique. Suddenly, a group of suburban housewives are questioning their role in the world.
In this episode we dive into gender roles in the 1960s vs. today, whether a woman's time was ever truly her own, feminism, and the quiet suffocation of a life that looks perfect on the outside — for both men and women.

We called in backup for this one. My Best Friend's Book Club joined forces with the Once Upon a Hot Take podcast to cover the cultural reset that is Twilight (book one). Best scenes that live rent free in our heads, worst scenes, what the movie did well, and of course, the hot takes we've been holding onto since 2008.
Whether you were Team Edward, Team Jacob, or now Team Charlie — this book vs. movie breakdown is for you.

Emerald Fennell didn't set out to make a faithful adaptation of Wuthering Heights — she set out to recreate how the book felt to her at fourteen years old. This week on My Best Friend's Book Club, we're doing a book vs. movie breakdown: the key differences, the color theory (there is so much red), our favorite scenes, and the uncomfortable truth that perhaps Heathcliff and Catherine are both, actually, the villain.Toxic love has never looked this cinematic — and we have thoughts.

Carter's credibility is unraveling, Birdy meets Carter's wife Jane, and Harrison is starting to lose his grip on reality — or is he? Someone is lying on the record, and the walls are closing in on everyone.
Dead or alive, Eden Fox is everywhere — and nobody in this small town mystery can agree on what they actually saw. Gabriella is whispering "run rabbit, run" from her hospital bed, and that unidentified body? We finally get news on the DNA. My Best Friend's Book Club's psychological thriller recap just got a whole lot darker.

Join us for a Q&A with New York Times bestselling author Patric Gagne, author of Sociopath: A Memoir — one of the most talked-about memoirs of the year. Her book was so compelling and raw that some readers felt it couldn't possibly be true. We talk about her response to the haters — and the burning questions we had after reading.
From how her parenting as a diagnosed sociopath differs from her husband's, to how she works to treat her own patients — this author interview goes places we didn't expect.
Haven't read Sociopath yet? It's a must-read. And if you don't have time, check out Season 8 of My Best Friend's Book Club where we recap it chapter by chapter.Want to read Patric's full written responses? Check them out.

A body has been found on Blackwater Bay beach — and nothing in Spyglass is what it seems. This week on My Best Friend's Book Club, our psychological thriller recap delivers: a mysterious figure in the cliffs, a secret tunnel, a burner phone, and a word written in a foggy mirror that will haunt you (or Harrison?).
Small town secrets, a missing wife mystery with no clean answers, and a twist so good we had to put the book down and stare at the wall.

Something is very wrong in Spyglass. Harrison wakes up the morning after Eden's gallery opening — hungover, foggy, and not entirely sure why — only to open his front door to a detective delivering the kind of news you don't come back from. His wife is missing. Presumed dead. And the clock is already ticking on whether anyone is going to tell the truth about what happened to her.
Birdy is catching people (like Eden's husband) in lies. Fresh sheets on the bed. A kitchen a stranger knows too well. A cop who claims he only just met Eden. Oh, and Harrison? He's the CEO of a company called Thanatos - the place that predicted Birdy's grandma's exact death day (along with, presumably, many others). This week on My Best Friend's Book Club, we're doing our best psychological thriller recap and honestly? As you predicted, we're not okay.

Eden is finally taking matters into her own hands and breaks into what she claims is her house, Spyglass. Inside, she finds she’s been wiped out of existence. After a fall (shove?) down the stairs and a dramatic getaway, she makes a desperate run to see her daughter—the one person who might prove she's the “real” Eden—only for a decade-long silence to break with a sinister twist.
Meanwhile, six months earlier, Birdy is busy uncovering the village's local lore about her grandmother - a.k.a - "the woman who died twice.” Birdy also visits the clinic that claims to predict your exact death date.
It all builds to a massive cliffhanger when a burner phone message that lures Eden's to the seaside cliffs where she meets… tune in to find out. :)
